Architectural lighting for a landmark boutique hotel in Canada

The Hotel St. Paul, Canada’s first boutique hotel, occupies an iconic Beaux-Arts building in the heart of Montreal’s financial district. Its interior has been redesigned with a contemporary style where light, warm materials and the sensory dimension of space play an essential role. Over time, it has established itself as an icon of Canadian design and has been recognised by TripAdvisor as one of the 500 best hotels in the world.

At the heart of the historic building, its lobby features a fireplace clad in our alabaster, where natural stone is transformed into a luminous surface that takes centre stage in the room. A precise fusion of classic architecture and modern sophistication.

The alabaster becomes the visual axis that balances the sobriety of the space with a warm, enveloping and deeply elegant presence. Thanks to its unique translucency, it provides a soft and homogeneous light that creates a timeless atmosphere, accompanying guests from the moment they step into the hotel lobby.

Zaida alabaster variety

In this project, our exclusive Zaida variety is key to creating the lobby’s iconic atmosphere. Its unique texture and translucency transform the space into a focal point full of serenity, depth and sophistication, consistent with the essence of the hotel.

Our Zaida variety, sourced from our quarries in Aragón, stands out for its exceptional translucency in snow white, with reddish earth tones and subtle cloudy textures.

Due to its ethereal beauty and incomparable light behaviour, combined with our professional experience with the material, Zaida has become our most sought-after variety by architects and interior designers.

Each slab was carefully selected and worked to ensure perfect translucency and respect for the natural and unique veining of the stone.
